Privacy Policy for Holiday Gift Tracker

Introduction

Holiday Gift Tracker ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Holiday Gift Tracker mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our App.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address, first name, and last name when you create an account
• Family Information: Family names and family codes you create or join
• Children Information: Names and ages of children you add to your family groups
• Gift Information: Gift names, descriptions, prices, categories, sizes, purchase status, notes, and hiding spots
• Photos: Images of gifts you choose to upload
• Wish Lists and Occasions: Gift ideas you record for each person, and the occasions, dates and budgets you set up

Automatically Collected Information

• Usage Data: Records of in-app actions such as claiming a gift, adding a wish list idea, exporting a list, or opening a product link. These are stored with your account identifier so we can understand which features are used.
• Activity Data: A once-per-day timestamp recording that your account was active, used to measure retention.
• App Information: Which platform you're on (iPhone or Android) and the app version, recorded alongside the usage data above. We do not collect your device model or operating system version.
• Push Notification Token: Your device's notification token, stored when you sign in so that reminders can be delivered to the right device if you turn them on. This happens whether or not reminders are enabled, because the token has to already be on file for reminders to work when you switch them on. Reminders themselves are off by default. The token is deleted when you delete your account.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the App's functionality
• Enable you to track gifts for family members
• Allow family members to collaborate and share gift information
• Authenticate your account and ensure security
• Improve and optimize the App experience

Data Storage and Third-Party Services

Firebase (Google LLC)

We use Google Firebase services to:

• Store your account and app data securely
• Authenticate users
• Host gift photos in cloud storage

Data Location

Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers. Firebase may store data in various locations to ensure reliability and performance.

Data Sharing

We do NOT:

• Sell your personal information to third parties
• Share your data with advertisers
• Use your data for marketing purposes outside the App

We only share data:

• With family members you explicitly join via family codes
• When required by law or legal process
• With service providers (Firebase/Google) necessary to operate the App

Your Family Data

When you join a family using a family code:

• All family members can see children, gifts, and photos within that family
• Gift information, including photos, is shared with all family members
• Any family member can add, edit, or delete family data

Your Rights and Choices

You can:

• Access Your Data: View all your information within the App
• Delete Your Data: Use the "Delete Account" feature in Settings to permanently remove your data. If you have uninstalled the App, see how to request account deletion.
• Turn Off Reminders: Disable reminders in Settings at any time. Your notification token and reminder preferences are deleted when you delete your account.
• Leave a Family: Remove yourself from families without deleting your entire account
• Delete Gifts: Remove all gifts using the "Holiday's Over" feature

Data Retention

We retain your data:

• While your account is active
• Until you delete your account
• Account deletion permanently removes your profile, your notification tokens and preferences, your usage records, and the families you created along with their recipients, gifts and photos
• Families created by someone else that you had joined are not deleted; you are removed from them, and their contents remain with the members who are still in them
• Deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days, after which it is permanently removed

Children's Privacy

Holiday Gift Tracker is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Firebase Authentication for secure login
• Firestore security rules to protect data access
• Secure cloud storage for photos

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Signing In

You can create an account with an email address and password, or by using Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. Sign in with Apple is available on iOS; Android supports email and Google. When you use Google or Apple, we receive your email address and, if you allow it, your name, and we use them to create your profile. We never receive your password.

Amazon Links

The App can open Amazon to help you check prices or revisit a product you saved. Those links carry our Amazon Associates tracking tag, and we may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed in the App's Settings screen.

• Opening an Amazon link takes you out of the App and into your browser or the Amazon app. What you do there is governed by Amazon's own privacy policy, not this one.
• We do not send Amazon your name, your email address, or your gift lists. The link carries the search term — which is the name of the gift you tapped, or a barcode you scanned — along with the product address where applicable and our tracking tag.
• We record the search term alongside your account identifier so we can see which features people use. If you'd rather a gift name not be recorded, don't use the price-check or product-link buttons for it.
• We record that a link was opened, and the search term used, so we can understand which features are useful.

Barcode Scanning

The App uses your device camera to scan product barcodes. Barcode scanning:

• Only occurs when you explicitly use the scan feature
• Does not continuously access your camera
• Does not store or transmit scanned images
• Only sends barcode numbers to UPCitemdb.com API for product lookup

Photo Access

The App requests access to your photo library only:

• When you choose to add a photo to a gift
• To allow you to select photos
• Photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage and shared with your family members

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Updating the "Last Updated" date
• Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App

Export Compliance

This App uses encryption for data transmission. The encryption is standard for mobile applications and does not require special authorization.
