Terms of Use

These terms cover the apps published by Chisel Theory LLC (“we”, “us”): Chisel, Smoke, Holiday Gift Tracker and Portrait. By using one of them, you're agreeing to what's below. We've tried to keep it readable.

Using the apps

You may use our apps for personal, non-commercial purposes. Don't do things that are obviously not on: reverse engineering them, breaking into other people's accounts, using them to harass anyone, or uploading content you don't have the right to share.

Some apps require an account. You're responsible for what happens under yours, so keep your sign-in details to yourself.

Your content is yours

Gift lists, photos, workout logs, messages: yours. We don't claim ownership of anything you put into an app. We store it so the app can work, and we handle it as described in that app's privacy policy.

Sharing means sharing

Some features are shared by design. In Holiday Gift Tracker, anyone with your family code can see the gift lists in that family. In Chisel, an accountability partner sees what you've agreed to share with them. Think about who you're inviting before you invite them, because we can't un-share something on your behalf after the fact.

Smoke, specifically

Smoke is end-to-end encrypted and holds no email address or phone number for you. That's the point, and it has a consequence worth stating plainly: we cannot read, recover or restore your messages or your keys. If you lose your device or delete the app, that history is gone permanently. There is no account recovery, because there is no account for us to recover.

Purchases

Anything you buy in an app is sold through Apple and governed by Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — we genuinely can't issue one. Apple's support can.

Availability

We work to keep the apps running, but we don't promise uninterrupted service. Features may change, and an app may eventually be discontinued. If we retire something, we'll aim to give you a way to get your data out first.

The apps are provided “as is”

We build carefully and fix what we find, but we can't warrant that an app will be error-free or fit for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Chisel Theory LLC isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the apps. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Our apps are not medical devices. Chisel tracks what you tell it; it does not give medical, nutritional or fitness advice. Talk to a professional for that.

Ending things

You can stop using an app whenever you like and delete your account from inside it. We may suspend an account that's being used to break these terms or to harm someone else.

Changes

If we update these terms we'll change the date at the top. Continuing to use the apps after that means the new version applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
