Couples Companion is built by Chisel Theory LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, how it is shared, and the choices you have. The app is designed for couples to connect privately, so protecting that privacy is central to how it works.
By creating an account or using Couples Companion, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use Couples Companion
Couples Companion is intended for adults. You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account or use the app. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Continue with Google, we receive a unique identifier and the email address you authorize that provider to share. You also set a display name.
Profile details. During setup you may provide optional information such as your pronouns, birthday, relationship status, living situation, relationship goals, and how you prefer to feel connected. You also confirm that you are 18 or older.
Pairing information. To use the app with your partner, one of you generates an invite code and the other enters it. We use this to link the two accounts into a couple.
Your content. This includes your answers to connection and intimacy prompts (for example "yes," "maybe," or "no"), any custom questions you create, your responses to the daily question, private chat messages with your partner, private photos you choose to send, dares, planned dates and date ideas, important dates and reminders, and the small "moments" (such as a hug or a kiss) you send.
Permissions you may grant
Some features ask your permission before they can work. You can change these at any time in your device settings.
Camera and photo library. Used only when you choose to take or select a private photo to send to your partner.
Notifications. Used to send reminders and alerts (for example, that your partner answered the daily question). Notifications never include a preview of your private messages.
Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode (biometrics). Used locally on your device to lock the shared photo gallery. We do not receive or store your biometric data.
Calendar. If you approve a planned date, the app can add it to your device calendar. The calendar entry is always labeled only as "CC Event." The private title and any notes stay inside the app and are never written to your calendar.
Information collected automatically
Device and push tokens. To deliver notifications, we store a push token associated with your device, along with basic platform information (for example, whether you are on iOS or Android).
Diagnostic and usage data. We and our infrastructure providers may collect limited technical data such as app version, error and crash logs, and aggregate usage to keep the app working and to improve it. This data is not used to read the content of your private answers, messages, or photos for analytics.
3. How connection and sharing work
Couples Companion is designed so that you control what your partner sees. A few specifics matter for your privacy:
Private answers stay private. Your raw "yes," "maybe," or "no" answers to intimacy prompts are not shown to your partner. A topic is only surfaced to both of you as a "match" when you have both responded and neither of you declined it. A "no" is never revealed to your partner.
Daily question. Your daily answer is hidden from your partner until they have also answered.
Private photos. Photos you send are not shown automatically. The recipient must press and hold to reveal an image. Either partner can delete a photo, and if a screenshot is detected while a photo is revealed, the photo is removed and your partner is notified. Photos are stored in encrypted cloud storage and are accessible in the app only behind a device lock (such as Face ID).
Chat. Messages are shared only between you and your partner within the app, and push notifications do not display message contents.
4. How we use your information
To create and operate your account and pair you with your partner.
To provide the app's features, including matching, the daily question, chat, private photos, dares, planning, reminders, and moments.
To send notifications you have enabled, such as reminders and alerts about your partner's activity.
To maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
To keep the service safe, review reports we receive, enforce our Terms, detect and prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. Where reasonably necessary for these purposes, authorized personnel may access content you have submitted.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content for advertising. We share information only in these limited ways:
With your partner. The connection content you create is shared with your paired partner in the ways described in section 3.
With service providers. We use trusted providers to run the app. This includes Google Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication, database, cloud functions, file storage, and push delivery, and Apple for Sign in with Apple and push notification delivery on iOS. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security commitments.
For legal and safety reasons. We may access, preserve, or disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or where we believe it is reasonably necessary to investigate or act on a report, enforce our Terms, prevent abuse, or protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Chisel Theory LLC.
In a business transfer. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app. You can delete content within the app, and you can delete your account at any time through the app or by contacting us. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backups and logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
7. Security
We use industry standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and rules that restrict who can read each piece of data. Private answers, messages, and photos are protected by access rules so that only you, your paired partner where applicable, and authorized personnel where reasonably necessary to operate and protect the service can access them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
View and update your profile and answers within the app.
Delete individual photos, messages, and other content.
Report a concern about your partner or content directly in the app, or by contacting us.
Delete your account, which removes your personal information as described in section 6.
Manage notification, camera, photo, and calendar permissions in your device settings.
Contact us to exercise any applicable privacy right. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
9. International users
We operate in the United States, and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data protection laws than your own.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the app. Your continued use of Couples Companion after an update means you accept the revised policy.
